China-India tensions, China responds indirectly to US offer of mediation

President Trump has offered China and India a willingness to act as a mediator in resolving the dispute over their shared border. "We have told both China and India that the United States is ready to mediate the ongoing border dispute between them and has the capacity to mediate," he said in a recent Twitter message on Wednesday.
The latest dispute over the LAC (Line of Actual Control) between India and China at the foot of the Himalayas erupted when it began construction of roads and airport extensions in the disputed area. According to US media, China has softened its previous stance in a recent statement, saying that the situation is "stable" and that the two sides can resolve the dispute through bilateral talks. According to political observers, instead of responding directly to President Trump's message, China has indirectly rejected the US offer.
