Britain's first veiled Muslim woman judge

For the first time in Britain, a Muslim woman has been appointed deputy district judge. Rafia Arshad says that veiled Muslim women can raise flags of success in various walks of life according to their abilities and hijab does not hinder their development in the society.
Rafia Arshad, 40, was appointed deputy district judge in the Midlands Circuit in the UK last week, and was greeted by a large number of men, including women, on the fulfillment of a long-held dream.
According to figures provided by the UK Judicial Office on 1 April 2019, there are 3,210 judges in the lower courts of England and Wales. Of these, only 205 (6%) are from black, Asian and other minorities, and about one-third of all 1,013 (31%) are women.
Rafia began her career as a trainee lawyer in Nottingham in 2002, working as a barrister in the Senate Family Law Chambers in 2004. She has been a lawyer in cases related to children, forced marriage and Islamic law for the past 15 years. She is also the author of a book on the family law of Islam.
Rafia Arshad clarified that my appointment was made purely on merit and not on the grounds that I wear hijab, there is a lesson for Muslim women that they too can wear hijab and raise the flag of success in the field of life.
